The Blues Bullies
News

Ole! The Blues Bullies return from an April 07 trip to Mazatlan, Mexico, where they performed at the “XXII Semana De La Moto Bike Rally” event in Mazatlan. This event has been billed as the biggest bike rally in Latin America, drawing 20 thousand + on the closing day. (Biggest crowd we've played for) There were mucho Harleys, customs, and other bikes as well, lots of bike events, no fights in the 12 year history of the event, great food and vendors. You can still have Mexican leather garments made to fit onsite by craftsmen that were very reasonable. There were many food vendors and bike shops onsite as well, and of course, beer tents. The event is billed as a family event, and I gotta tell you, I haven’t met nicer people in years, from the promoters themselves to everyone else we met. Things were done on a handshake, the professionalism was exceptional, the hospitality was great.

“ The Blues Bullies were everything we hoped for, after the first show and 4 standing ovations, we knew the people here really liked them. They’re on the radio here and the mayor wants an autographed CD too. We’re looking forward to next year when we have them back to headline the shows.”
Jorge Tirado, president of Los Rucos club who promoted the event~

Review by the "Holler", the bimonthly  hardcopy newsletter of the Colorado Blues Society.  Vol.10, No.3 edition, Jan 2005:

The Blues Bullies, Beatin' Up on the Blues, 2004.  Pueblo Colorado's Best Kept Secret has released a great recording.  The band consists of Mark Litton, the bassist, vocalist and writer or co-writer of most of the songs,  Dano Weston, the drummer, vocalist, harmonocist and percussionist, Pete Leri is the keyboardist and Jeremiah D. Lewis is the guitarist.

The DC starts out with "Blue Man", a great song that starts out slow but then moves into overdrive.  "Good Morning Little School Girl," a Sonny Boy Williamson cover, lets Dano Weston show off his harp licks.   "Beatin' Up On The Blues" showcases some tasty keyboards and get-off-your-ass-and-dance rhythm.  "Runnin Scared" showcases some more awesome harp.

On "Black and Blue," Jeremiah shows he can GET DOWN and DIRTY with some SLOW BLUES.  "Triple Bad" is a mixture of letting the harpman roar with some tasty guitar chops.  The CD closes out with "Summertime"--- I've always liked Arc Light's version, but The Blues Bullies have put their own spin on it with a very enjoyable version.

UPDATES FOR 2007

The Blues Bullies have gone through some changes for 2007. Of course, the trip to play the largest Biker Run in Latin America definitely put a new and hopefully better fire under the band to record a new CD, which is now in the mix-down phase. "This really shows our roots in blues-based  Rock - Roll" says founding Bully Mark Litton. Guitarist Sonny Theis and keyboardist Pete Leri have contributed as song writers and pushed the boundary once again of variety  in the Blues Bullies repertoire. The new disc, entitled "Paradise Bound" is a collection of musical and life experiences based on the Mazatlan Semana De La Moto, or Bike Week In Mazatlan. "We really think that it is some of our best writing to date", says Dano Weston. "Response from the audiences we've played the new material for has been great!"

The new album should be out by February 2008.

Hey, Blues Bullies fans!  Besides playing music, the Bullies love to ride motorcycles and fish. And there is a great combination to be enjoyed in the Sierra Madre mountains of  the state of Sinaloa at Billy Chapman Jr.'s Anglers Inn at lake El Salto, and the recently opened lodge at lake Lopez Mateos. Dano and his wife Sandi were guests at both luxury facilities in September of 2007, and had the fishing experience of a lifetime. "Both Sandi and I were true amateurs at fresh water bass fishing, but after a little encouragement and some great tips from Herbie, the on site bass fishing pro, we were pulling out 5 and 6 pounders like we'd been doing it all our lives!" said Dano.  But the fishing is only part of the experience: elegant dining either in your suite or the dining facility, room service around the clock, massages for those sore and tired muscles from pulling in trophy bass fish all day long, and you never carry any luggage to or from your room from the time you arrive until you leave." Billy's slogan of "A World of Service" is exactly that. We were treated like family." Sandi said.

Ho! Ho! HO! and a bottle of ?? TEQUILA??  Seems like those Blues Bullies just can't get of that beautiful Mexican weather.

Through their good amigos at www.stoadventures.com

and www.hogsonthehighseas.com

the Bullies return to Mazaztlan, Sinaloa, Mexico on April 16th, 2008 to perform for the Hogs On The High Seas land party, hosted by Billy Chapman Jr's Steel Thunder Outfitters.

What a concept that Dean and Debbie Anderson, owners and operators of Hogs On The High Seas have created. A luxury ocean cruise for bikers who want to experience the ultimate in fine dining, fun, and the beauty and serenity of cruising on the Pacific Ocean. This is only one of four cruises that Hogs On The High Seas organizes: there  are two to the Caribbean and one to Alaska besides this one to the Mexican Riviera. The Riviera cruise features land parties at Cabo and Puerto Vallarta as well as Mazatlan.

There will be food, all the drinks (caffeinated and alcoholic), games, prizes, and, of course, live music by the Blues Bullies!!

The event will be at Mazatlan's Holiday  Inn Sun Spree Resort.  Said  Blues Bullies Pere Leri," We plan to rock and blues up the whole resort and have a great time doing it!"

WOW!! What a gig!  The 2008 edition of La Semana Internacional De La Moto was, yes, bigger and better than 2007.

The crowds exceeded 25,000 people and were so appreciative of Southern Colorado's Blues Bullies and their music. Favorites from the first CD like "Runnin' Scared" and "Baja California" drew cheers from the "Mazatelecos" (people from Mazatlan), and songs from the new CD "Paradise Bound" , such as "Semana De La Moto", "Sacuda El Cascabel", "Bully Zone", and "Laughlin" brought the crowd to a frenzy!

"They were singing along and bumping into each other like they had heard the songs before", said Dano Weston. "I think the radio  interview on "La Planeta 100.3" and subsequent radio play really helped to get everyone into a party mood".

Organizer and president of the Moto Club Mazatlan and "Los Rucos" Jorge Tirado said the bikers came to the official booth and asked if the "Gringos" were coming back to play in 2009. "Por su puesto" (Of Course) he replied!  Gracias Mexico!
