Review by the "Holler", the bimonthly hardcopy newsletter of the Colorado Blues Society. Vol.10, No.3 edition, Jan 2005:
The Blues Bullies, Beatin' Up on the Blues, 2004. Pueblo Colorado's Best Kept Secret has released a great recording. The band consists of Mark Litton, the bassist, vocalist and writer or co-writer of most of the songs, Dano Weston, the drummer, vocalist, harmonocist and percussionist, Pete Leri is the keyboardist and Jeremiah D. Lewis is the guitarist.
The DC starts out with "Blue Man", a great song that starts out slow but then moves into overdrive. "Good Morning Little School Girl," a Sonny Boy Williamson cover, lets Dano Weston show off his harp licks. "Beatin' Up On The Blues" showcases some tasty keyboards and get-off-your-ass-and-dance rhythm. "Runnin Scared" showcases some more awesome harp.
On "Black and Blue," Jeremiah shows he can GET DOWN and DIRTY with some SLOW BLUES. "Triple Bad" is a mixture of letting the harpman roar with some tasty guitar chops. The CD closes out with "Summertime"--- I've always liked Arc Light's version, but The Blues Bullies have put their own spin on it with a very enjoyable version.
